Yes, dear friends, the time has come to make this official. We're planning a small ceremony to take place Monday, May 9, 2005 at the World Famous Magic Castle in Hollywood, California. Here are directions from LAX to the Castle.
Monday, May 9 TIMELINE: 4:00 - wedding party gathers at Magic Castle 4:30 - wedding ceremony followed by pictures of Dan and Katy and family 5:00 - reception in the Inner Circle of the Magic Castle (including some command performances by some of our closest magical friends) 6:30 - dinner in the Magic Castle dinning room 8:30 - Palace of Mystery show (those eating dinner with us will have tickets) 9:30 - explore and experience the magic at the Castle
The Ceremony We've made special arrangements to be wed in Invisible Irma's parlour. Invisible Irma is the resident ghost of the Castle and she plays requests and even converses through her piano. She'll be playing the music at the ceremony.
The ceremony will be officiated by Reverend Jim...Owens. Jim is a great friend of both Katy and Dan and has known us for years and years. We got him ordained and he'll be doing the tying of the knot.
Jonathan Levit will be taking the official photographs of the festivities. He's a very good friend of ours and you can visit his site(s) here.
DRESS CODE This is important. The Magic Castle has a very strict dress code. Business attire for men (i.e.coats and ties) and evening wear for ladies (i.e. cocktail dresses, pantsuits - pants with matching jacket, etc). No casual wear, such as jeans or tennis shoes. They are really serious about it, so don't forget to pack your Sunday Finest. IMPORTANT The minimum age at the Magic Castle is 21. Younger folks can get into the wedding and reception, but not to dinner and the shows.
Accomodations Dan, Katy, the Whitmans (or is that Whitmen?), and the Trommater clan have reservations at the Magic Castle Hotel, right next door to the Castle. It makes sense that everyone who's coming to the festivities would stay there. You should probably get busy and make reservations soon - it's a pretty small hotel. Here is a link to their site. Here are directions from LAX to the Hotel.
There are other hotels in the area, in case you can't get a room at the Magic Castle Hotel. You can try the Holiday Inn on Highland Blvd. Or there's the Comfort Inn on Highland Blvd. Both are within walking distance to the Castle, though I'm not sure that I'd want to walk back from the Castle at 1am...
If you're flying in for the ceremony, you'll probably want to fly into LAX. It's a huge and really cool looking airport. If you fly in at night, you'll get to see the weird 1950s space-ship-restaurant at its best.
You could also fly into the Burbank airport, but it's probably more expensive to do so.
Gift Registry While we certainly don't have any expectations of gifts, we HAVE been asked to register. So, we did - at two places. You can go to http://www.target.com/gp/registry/wedding.html (for household items) or http://www.rei.com/online/store/GiftRegistryHomeView?storeId=8000 (for camping gear) or http://www.amazon.com/gp/registry/search.html/104-6925536-3621505?type=wedding (for other stuff) and enter either Dan or Katy's name to see our wish lists. But, please know that the best present is to have you come to the wedding and not throw tomatoes.
Dan's Performances I'll also be performing at the Magic Castle the week leading up to the wedding. I'll be doing 4 shows nightly in the Close-up Gallery. I'm doing the late shows, so that means 10:00 - 10:45 - 11:30 - 12:00. I'd love to have you come to a show, plus then you'd get to see some of the other great magicians performing at the club.
Food - the real reason for the trip for many of you... You can't go to Los Angeles and not eat at Roscoe's Chicken and Waffles. It sounds very strange, but it's one of my favorite meals ever. The syrup and hot sauce combine with the fluffy waffles and fried chicken to make a delicacy that is unequaled in the civilized world. I'll be making an effort to get everyone together to go on Saturday or Sunday before the wedding.
Priscilla demands that we go to Pink's hotdogs. I think that's a great idea. Bring your Alka Seltzer!
I'll be updating this page with new information as I get it. Check back soon for more information, and be sure to hit the 'refresh' button to get the most recent version of the page. Until then, go buy your tickets to LA!
