Thinking Like a Magician "The Year of No Fear" - January 2008 My friend and fellow speaker Paul Frazer doesn't like New Year's resolutions. He says they don't work. I can't say that I disagree. How many people do you know who have the same resolutions year after year? In his excellent regular email Paul suggested instead of making a list of resolutions, that you declare this "The Year of ..." I took this challenge to heart and have decided that, for me, 2008 is "The Year of No Fear." Though I am generally a pretty outgoing person, at times I let fear get in my way. I hesitate to get into situations that may be uncomfortable - networking meetings for example. Sometimes this 'fear' even causes me to avoid those opportunities. This happened when we first moved to Toronto. I spent weeks unable to get out and meet people. When I finally was able to overcome this fear and go to a networking meeting, an amazing thing happened - I had a great time. After the meeting was over, I felt almost euphoric. Paradoxically, the thing that had paralyzed me was the very thing that gave me the most satisfaction. Once I overcame that fear, I was unstoppable!
