Thinking Like a Magician

"Time Travel" - November 2008

Clock by Roger Wood

In August of 2007, researchers published findings that suggested that a time machine could, theoretically, be built. Can you imagine that? Imagine having the ability to move backwards in time to re-live your favorite moments. Or perhaps go back and observe yourself. What would you go back in time to do? Among other things, I'd like to go back and see my Dad when he was young - before I was born. I know I have a bit of a one-sided view of him - he was my hero. It would be interesting to get a view of him as a different, younger man. Even though it's pretty unlikely that I'll have the opportunity to actually travel back in time, I am lucky to have photo albums full of pictures of him as a young man. Looking through them transports me to a time before I was born - perhaps the closest I'll ever get to time travel.

In the grand scheme of things, each of us is here on the planet for a startlingly short time. It seems to me that until time travel is a reality (and I wouldn't hold my breath), we must take full advantage of the time we have. It is most certainly our most precious commodity.
